Just got a call from this number (Ashley) who wanted my wife - insisted that I take a message. Said she was agent for IRS - says that a registered letter had been sent last month, blah, blah. What is really worrisome though is that the caller used my wife's nickname, not her legal name and the caller also knew my nickname. Of course, IRS would never know either of us by other than our legal names so this scam couldn't work, however if this was a more personal scam - say asking for ransom it could have had a chance of working.....

I answered the call and it was a guy who identified himself as Dan Sterling, calling because I allegedly expressed interest in furthering my education. I suspect "Dan" might have actually been a machine because there was a pause after everything I said before I got a response, and the responses sounded like they were fabricated from some voice recognition-based key word search. I said, "Oooh, this sounds like fun!," and the response was, "Hello?" I responded with gibberish, and "Dan" said, "Are you there?" I said some random words and got disconnected.
