The caller tried to claim that the call was "informational" rather than "marketing" but he was clearly lying. The purpose of the call was to promote some good or service related to computing. The opening line was "I'm calling about your computer"..

Computer repair. They told me they had detected errors transmitted by my machine through the "International Routing Server" and had generated reports telling them that my machine was infected. He claimed to know my I.P> Address but could not give it to me. His intent was to fool me into buying a remotely performed repair by his company, www.aonets.com His caller ID was spoofed to use the District of Columbia number 202-202-1234.

I am on the Board of Directors of PCBUG.ORG , the local PC Club and many of our members are getting this deceptive cold call, lying to them saying their machine is infected. I build PCs for a living and am a retired police officer. I would love to shut these scam artists down and would make an excellent witness.

They claim that there are problems on my computer and then tried to convince me to pay a fee for a service to fix them and/or to buy a one-year computer maintenance subscription. They claim to be from the company that manages my operating system.
