Call from (202) 239-2278. I had a bit of fun with the gentlemen, just to get a feel for WHO he was...tried to throw him off a bit. He didn't even initially understand what I meant when I asked him, "how are the kids?", as if he'd never even heard this phrase before. The call is actually almost funny.

I have already posted a comment on this page, but wanted to add that I downloaded the app "EveryCaller Reverse Phone Lookup" onto my iPhone, and looked up the number. The app redirected me to this exact page! lol! But, the app also, for $2.99, allowed me to look up the name of the caller. I did, and the name of the caller was listed as, "INTERNAL REVENU", Washington, DC, USA. I've filed complaints with the U.S. Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA) at 800-366-4484. I also filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission at www.FTC.gov. Add “IRS Telephone Scam" to the comments in your complaint.

I wanted to add that after receiving the call from (202) 239-2278, I immediately reported https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov . I chatted with an agent from that site too, and the agent told me to report it by pressing the red alert button at the top to start the process.

I just received a call from (202) 239-2278 at 10:30am this morning, Tuesday, October 4. The call was an automated, poor-audio-quality recording that claimed that the IRS was filing a lawsuit against me and that I needed to call back the number (202) 239-2278 ASAP. I have no reason to suspect that the IRS would be filing a lawsuit against me, as I have reported and paid my taxes without error for my entire adult life (15 years now). I have reported this, via various IRS and Federal Trade Commission online resources. I have tried calling the IRS as well, but their voicemails are all full.

Reported this to the U.S. Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA) https://www.treasury.gov/tigta/contact_report_scam.shtml by phone, email, and chat. I also reported this to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) here: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/ (click on the red ALERT button at the very top to file a complaint). Also, I downloaded the "EveryCaller Reverse Phone Lookup" app from my iPhone, paid $2.99 to get the name of the caller, and looked up the number. The app redirected me to this exact page you are reading now, and the name that was revealed when I purchased 5 credits from the app for this purpose, was "INTERNAL REVENU" out of Washington, DC, USA. Hope this helps.

I also called the number (202) 239-2278 back, as the automated call instructed me to do, and all I was left with was a voicemail of a woman saying that this was the "office of internal revenue" or something along those lines, and the woman's voice had a DEEP accent...sounded like either a middle-eastern accent or an accent from India. I'm pretty much gonna rest my case here and say this is definitely a scam number. I'll try to report back here if I get any more word from the complaints I filed.

I had the fear of my life. Somebody with an indian accent saying that IRS is filing against me with a lot of echo. I hang up and chech if it is not a scam and yes it is as I see all these complaints

Same guy called me. He was an Indian accented guy named John Martin - same details as before. He was quite agressive, telling me that I would have to pay a bunch of taxes. Don't think he expected me to be an American accented citizen, given my name. I asked him what time it was in DC and he fumbled, and did the math wrong. India has a 30 minute offset so no matter what hour it is here, time between here and India will be mismatched by 30 minutes. He didn't realize that I just moved from India.

Complete jackass of a person. I hope these guys get shut down.

I received a call from this number today. It was an automated computer telling me it was the IRS and I needed to call the number back for my back taxes. I let it play through. Then I called back the number and it stated the magic jack customer was unavailable at which time my phone ran and the number was calling me back. This time it was Officer John Martin with the IRS, whom was speaking in an Indian accent. He gave me a badge number of 119252 and stated my case number was DC19208. He asked me to verify my address which I told him yes it was an old address. He stated I was being audited for 2013-2015. He asked if I filed my taxes, I said yes I always do and always get a refund. He said I owe $3995. I then mentioned for those years I didn't file under that address and he wanted me to verify that address and I refused, I then asked him why I had to received anything in the mail from the IRS and I told him this was a total BS call cause I couldn't hear him with all of the background noise and he then got mad and asked if I thought this was a joke call and I said yes I do and he said something which I couldn't understand and then hung up.

A man with an Indian accent who claimed his name was Eaton Green and that I owed $3,982.12 in back taxes. He says there is a warrant for my arrest and that there is a case filed against me. He mentioned that this information has been sent to my mailing address but that I hadn't responded. When I asked which address he had on file, he couldn't answer and sat silently while "looking." I asked him why he was doing this scam and he hung up immediately. When I called back, he said, "can I sex with you?" When I said "pardon?" he said "can I f*** you?" I called back asking for HIS address and he gave me the address for the IRS. When I mentioned the word 'scam" again, he once again hung up.

Obviously calling from a call center in India - man with accent named Eaton Green claimed to be IRS agents - said I owed almost $9,000 in back taxes and that I must pay immediately or I would be arrested within 2 hours. When I asked to speak to a supervisor I was transferred to a David Parker, who also had a heavy Indian accent. When I confronted him and asked for specific information he began calling me a crazy lady and hung up.
