The caller ID said the number calling was 202-241-4401, possibly a spoofed number. The caller, who had a think foreign accent identified himself as Officer John Walsh. I asked who he was with. He said the IRS. He asked for Mr. Miller. I said there was no one here by that name. He then asked my name. I told him that if was calling for Mr. Miller and there was no Mr. Miller here, it didn’t matter what my name was because he had the wrong number. Every time I asked a question, he paused and I could here someone in the background telling him what to say next. He asked if my name was Margaret. I said no. He said he had to verify my name to give me any information. I gave him the fake name of Jane Smith. He asked for my zip code. I told him that it didn’t matter and asked what this was about. He said that there was a mistake in my tax returns for the last five years and gave me a dollar amount. He said that he was Officer John Walsh calling to help me correct it. I asked him why he asked for Mr. Miller and then Margaret if this had to do with my taxes. He said he had some incorrect information. I told him that he sure did because I knew this was a scam and I would be reporting him.
