left 46 second automated message indicating that it was a call from irs criminal investigation division. it says that there is fraud or misconduct on my account. it is impossible. the us gov has my address why not send a letter? SCAM

Same here. Jason Brown with a middle eastern accent?? Hardly. Said he was with dept of legal affairs-us dept of treasury. And I am being cited? And to have my recent lawyer call back at 202-470-2578. The call was from 319-505-9106 Iowa, but the message said to return call to the 202 number. Sad sad.

I received a voicemail from 800-829-1040 from Amy Davis. She said to call back to 202-470-2578 regarding a legal matter and they were from the US Treasury Department. This is a SCAM. DO not call back do not respond to this.

I received 2 messages from 800-829-1040 one from Jason Brown and one from Pamela Watson. They both said to call back to 202-470-2578 regarding a legal matter and they were from the US Treasury Department.

This man called my house and scared my kids and family I called the IRS and found he's a fraud be aware and call the cops if someone comes to your house!!!!

I got much the same message as reported by Bruce Taylor. What I want to know is how to prosecute. I have received two messages so far. one on my cell and one on my land line.

The caller said his name was "Tony Jones" from the legal affairs office of the U.S. Treasury Department to discuss an important legal matter and law enforcement action, which would be a "big legal mess" if we didn't contact him right away to resolve it. When I called back, the message said the person called was unavailable and please leave a message, so I did and said I was the attorney for the person he had asked for. This is an obvious extortion attempt, since the Treasury Dept. does not call citizens and threaten a big legal mess, but foreign thieves demand money to settle legal problems with the Government. I work for the U.S. Government, at the Justice Dept., and if agents of the Govt. (DOJ, IRS, FBI, etc.) want to contact someone, they do it by letter, or by subpoena, not a threatening phone call.
