Spam calls made by people who are trying to impersonate a legitimate government agency are commonly referred to as "government scams". These scammers make the calls to try to get private information from the people they are calling. The most common government agency scammers try to pose as is the IRS. They will call people and tell them they are wanted by the police for tax fraud or unpaid taxes. These calls can be very convincing, as they will tell you your full legal name as well as your address or social security number. However, they are scam calls are should not be trusted. All of these calls are spam calls and the callers are committing a crime, so you should not wire money to them or confirm your bank account information. True government agencies can be trusted and they will confirm whether or not you are wanted for a crime or have not paid your taxes.
