I received three calls within a 2 minute time span from this lady. Elena? When I finally called back she told me this unbelievable story about how I had been a good citizen and the government had randomly selected me to receive $7,000 from them based on having no criminal record, no bankruptcy filing in the past 6 months, and because of my demographic location. She offered the choice to pay it to me through cash, my visa, or my account. In the possibility that this was a scam I was not about to give her my account or card information. She asked my age, my name (which if it had been true she should have already known), and my zip code (something else she should have known). She gave me the number for her supervisor, Johnny Snow (very GoT sounding), so that I could go through the process of receiving the cash. I'm a college kid, so grant money sounded plausible. But I looked up the number here and read all of these stories about a team of scammers. I asked my dad about it and we agreed it was unfortunately too good to be true. So please do not fall for this.
Her number: 202-738-4101; her "supervisor" number: 202-738-1482.
I called the guy and got the "department" a little bit more clearly. (US Grant Department in Washington DC) He hung up on me pretty quickly when he knew that I knew that it was a scam. So I called him on a different phone. He didn’t pick up, guess I called back too soon. So I left their information with the HHS Fraud Hotline at 1-800-447-8477.
