Is not that they're (Portfolio Recovery) like many other low life debt collectors out there, these guys actually are among the more professional debt collectors - hard to believe, isn't it? However because they buy leads and debt in bulk, they acquire old and statute expired debt, right along with legitimate ones. Unfortunately is not going to help their bottom line to try to figure which is which, so they go after all of them. It gets nasty when they work an account for a while and there is no pay off. At that point for all their grand standing, their agents act no different that any other low life debt collector. And no - they will not listen to any arguments about the debt is old, paid off, or not your. All they want is some money (10 to 30 cents on the dollar) so they can get the supervisors off their back and maybe get a bonus. This company is a big one so they know how to get around federal rules. If you want to get them off of you, go through your state's authorities.

Knowing how to "get around federal rules" is still illegal and only means that they rely on the fact that their "customers" (i.e. victims) might not know the law or how to protect themselves. One call to a lawyer will solve it. Or it's a $1,000 fine each time they call you.

Portfolio Recovery. They try to collect on debt that is too old to take any action on that is from 7-20+ yrs old. They try to intimidate but can't do anything due to age of accounts. Do not pay them or fall for their tactics. They can't do anything to you at all but harass you. They are bottom feeders. They also use many #'s from many different area codes. They never leave messages. They use call bots and will constantly call until you are forced to change your #. I am posting this on as many of these phone # look up sites as i can to educate anyone who is being harassed by this company and so they don't pay them. These people are the dead beats and will try to collect on a 25+ yr old utility bill for less than $100.00. They may be allowed to do it but they can not take any actions against whoever they are trying to collect from on the very old debt. This is an outfit who has just discovered a way to try to intimidate people into paying non-collectible debt by means of harassment and intimidating tactics.
