"Madam we have detected a problem with your computer, please turn on your computer." They purport to help you cure a computer virus. It is a scam to get your passwords and other personal information. They kept calling at least 5 or 6 times in rapid succession and used profanity when told to stop calling. When I didn't answer one of their repeated calls, they left a "dead air" voice mail message.

Could barely understand the guy but he said my computer had a problem and he was with Windows tech department and would help me. Told him I knew it was a scam, to remove me from his call list, and not to call again.

Indian-accented male called one of our company's user's telling her to turn on her computer immediately because it was at risk. He said it was a "software pod failure" and that he wanted to assist her as soon as possible. She said no, and that she would talk to HER IT folk to see if there was an issue. He said they wouldnt know what he was talking about and that HE needed to assist her. She hung up and called us, we reported it to our InfoSec team.

THIS IS A SCAM. Read about the your-PC-is-infected-corrupted scam here http://news.softpedia.com/news/Cold-Call-Tech ... on-150170.shtml They lie about your PC sending out malware, error messages, etc., and say your PC is about to crash to frighten you into giving them remote control of your PC to fix the nonexistent problem (don't let them!). If they ask you to open the systems tab in eventvwr.msc to see all the errors, these harmless errors are *normal* for any Windows PC (mine has several and it runs just fine). Don't let them take control of your PC because they can download *real* malware, possibly a malware suite, that can spam, steal bank logins and personal info, etc. If they've remoted into your PC, the safest fix is to re-format your drive and re-install your OS assuming you have clean backups of your data. You can try scanning with various antivirus software but scanning may not find all the malware.

Female (Indian/Pakistani accent) telling me she was from Microsoft and trying to get me to sit in front of my computer since they had reports of my computer being infected by a virus. Since I had some time to waste (and wanted to waste hers) asked her questions about exactly what she was seeing and what IP address were they also seeing. Frustrated her and she hung up after a few minutes. Had two calls in two days. When she calls again my goal is to waste more of her time and see how long I can keep her on the line. Yes, she calls in the evening (Hawaii time).

Claimed to be from Microsoft, said there was malware on my computer and to turn it on so he could fix it. Strong south-Asian accent. He kept wanting me to turn on my computer. I said it was working fine, I wasn't getting any error messages and would not turn on the computer. He was quite insistent but I hung up on him.
