thank you james, just got the same call and to "hurry" and call back because I may be "shortlisted"...sounds scamish to me!
The caller identified himself as James and said he worked in the government grant program. He informed me that I had been chosen to receive a $9000 free grant from the government because I had no problems with the IRS, paid bills, on time, etc. He already had my address and phone number of course as well as my name. He then gave me a phone number to call, 206-451-5174, and my Grant ID number. I was told to call immediately to get the grant processing started. This is a scam. I did not call but I'm sure if I had, I would have been asked for my banking information.
Additionally, the US government has an example on line of this type of scam.
