Says they are Windows tech support
Criminal pretends to be Microsoft
Get calls from this number often ~ Callers seem to be from India or Pakistan, claiming to be with Microsoft. This one declared that he got a 'frightening' report that our Windows operating system is compromised with viruses in over 45% of the applications and he is calling to assist me in removing them. I told him that I had run malware/anti-virus programs just days ago and eliminated any such issues. He then told me that my actions only removed what I see on the screen....that the damage was getting in via the back of my computer monitor every time I access the internet. Seriously, who writes their scripts? He wanted me to go online and download software so he could 'accompany' and walk me through it in tandem with his computer station to correct this horrible situation. I said absolutely not. He asked what specific sites I access so that he could check which ones might have left me vulnerable to this cyber attack. I figured one good lie deserves another so I told him we normally interact with law enforcement sites like local and state police, federal agencies, etc. Completely bogus but he seemed to fall for it. He hung up so fast, I'm concerned that he might have injured himself. I shall inquire as to his health the next time they call me.
