Had applied for a Chinese visa through an agency. This number called and said they wanted me for a personal interview at the Chinese Consulate in New York City. Gave me the correct address, told me to go to Window 1. Even referred to me as Professor XXXX. They had my information though I went through an agency. Agency said they would pick up my visa.

They called telling me that my Chinese Visa was canceled as someone had copied my passport &visa and then entered Shanghai airport with them. In turn Chinese customs canceled my visa, and I needed to reapply for my visa with the ......I can speak Mandarin so communication was rather clear with them......in the end I gave them nothing, but it was a hardcore fishing expedition for them, rather intricate for sure. May they all die a slow and painful death.

Robocall IMPOSTOR. Spoofs the number to the Chinese Consulate. My Chinese is rusty, but caller purports it is official business and time sensitive. I needed speaking practice so I wasted their time to see what angle they were working. This one's great: Your name was used in a fake passport at customs in Beijing. We need additional information for you to make a statement that you are innocent of this offense, that you did not know the person that used your identity. Please hold while we take your info for this statement. If you disconnect, your passport will be restricted for travel (preying on this fear). Basically the caller claims that hanging up will reduce your chances of exonerating yourself. That's great, but the country that can restrict my passport is not China, so good luck on that. Don't fall for this junk, call the consulate directly if you are worried. Reported incident to FTC. Please report the call if you receive this, it is a horrible scam impersonating another government.

Just got a call from this number. Didn't pick up, and they left a voicemail in Mandarin. All it did was loop and get cut off. LOL, doesn't matter. I don't even know what she said.

Every line in our office got this spam message via voicemail over the weekend. It is in Chinese. The past few weeks I've been getting calls like this as well.
