The caller told me that he was going to help me protect my computer (presumably with a download). He never did tell me exactly how he could "help" me because I continued to insist I didn't want his calls again.

the caller claimed to be calling from Microsoft Internet Security Department regarding my computer having been hacked. I told him I would like to call him back and he gave me this call-back number: 866-539-8674. I then looked on the Microsoft website support page and it appears that this was a fraudulent call; the website says they do not make unsolicited support calls.

They know your name. They say your Windows computer has shown up as having virus problems on their server. I don't have any Windows PC's - only Macs. This was at least our 4th such call in the last 3 months. I Googled their phone # this time to discover this is a scam to gain remote access to people's computers and steal what information they can. I didn't track the previous calls. I got their phone # off caller ID, but my system only tracks the phone number. Please Google the number for more information.

Windows Tech Support” scam spoofing the phone number for the McGraw Hill publishing company; 212-512-2524. The person on the other gets obscene and hangs up the phone when the consumer calls the company out.
