These callers are scammers. They prey on you with phrases such as "don't you care about people who protect you?". They are not associated with state of texas.
STAY AWAY from these huckster. This is what the TX AG has to say about them: The Texas State Troopers Association (TSTA), hires professional telemarketers to call potential donors for contributions. Much of the money raised by TSTA doesn't actually go to officers or their families. According to a recent IRS filing by the TSTA, its telemarketing efforts yielded $3.59MM through telephone solicitations. Of that amount, more than 75% or $2.78MM was spent on professional fundraising fees. The IRS documents also indicate the organization spent just $10,8K on trooper death benefits; $22,000 on a trooper event;and $72,000 on contract lobbyists. That basically left nothing for the troops themselves. Basically they are a self-perpetuating business.
