I believe that these calls have a political motivation behind them and that it has nothing to do with healthcare. I presumed they had contacted me initially because I went to the University of California. I think I know which PR firm is behind it. By the third phone call, during which I was compliant, the caller, upon learning that there was a man in the house, demanded to speak to him and knowing his name. He never once asked for my name. He told me that if they sense that someone is acting as a guard dog in the family, they move on to the next person. (So much for being legit) My significant other will speak to no one doing a survey....for a variety of reasons including health, but a woman called back today asking for him again. She said she was calling to "confirm" he would not speak to them. I don't believe the UC system has anything to do with this group other than perhaps allowing a PR firm to use them as a pretext for underhandedly collecting information about the population. Even their website does not function properly and is so lacking in information that it lacks professionalism. If they were as real and as big as they claim, none of this would be taking place. No doubt it's a PR firm working for a political goal.

I received a call stating they were doing a study on the effects of media on teenagers. My 17 year old is speaking to them this morning. We gave my work address as the home address, so they can send his $10 for participating and still not have our home address. These are confidential questions, and they won't release the answers to me or my husband, and our son knows not to give out identifying information. They have his first name and DOB for verification that he qualifies for the survey. I don't think it's a huge deal, they only have my cell number, and he turns 18 (and therefore "ages out" of qualification) in 2 weeks. For the people who asked how to get them to stop calling - I'm thinking your first step needs to be actually answering the phone. If you don't want to participate, tell them that. It's not a sales call, and they're perfectly polite. My son who's participating wasn't home at the time of the call, and I offered his 17 year old brother, but they have strict guidelines that the one with the next birthday is who they must choose. If it was a scam, I'd think they'd take my younger son in order to get it done with one call. The fact that they were willing to call back when it's convenient for the middle son tells me it's legit.

Just my two cents :)

Just received a call from them. Said the study was from Kristine Kerner Dartmouth Medical School doing a study about Media and Advertising and will call in the next few days. This has got to be a scam. There are companies out there billing you tons of money if you accept their calls and it's legal. I'm getting repeated calls from another number as well. I'm so upset. This is my cell. How did they get this number? I've registered on the Do Not Call list just recently. Hopefully it will put an end to this harrasment soon.

So how do you stop them calling? They've called me about three times a day for the past week, even as late as 9 at night. Aren't there laws or guidelines about things like this?

Says they want me to be a part of study being conducted by Univ of Calif. They wanted to get health info from people all over the country. Offered references. I declined. They pushed on saying "it was a very important study". I was suspicious This is not normal way to get participants and call was from southern md..not calif.

They have been calling me as well and harassing me. When I tell them to remove my number they say they can not remove my number. The guy I spoke to was completely rude. How dare they call me and then treat me in such a manner.
