Impersonates Microsoft to try to get people to download unknown software.
I just recieved a phone call from the gentleman with a very heavy Indian accent and fast speech. I am very country so fast speech for me is very confusing. Identifying himself as from Windows Help Center, he spoke of my computer having malicious viruses and malware, so it needed to be removed immediately. He also said my computer was sending out error messages that was disrupting other computers within my area to keep from having a secure connection. I live in an apartment building so I was concerned for my neighbors, but I found a few things odd. Normally, when my accent is heard and they can not slow down for me, they transfer me to an American representative. This time was not the case, but I did get him to slow down, and he has a very firm grasp of the English language. I heard other people in the background. So I asked him, "how did you get my number?" We are private, and unlisted. He said from my computer ... my computer is not listed with my number, but a dead one for this specific purpose. So I asked for his company's name and number and I would call them if the problem is legitment(like you do with phishing companies to see if it's real or not) and he said, I'll just call you back. I replied with the same demand and then you heard someone in the background going 'she knows it's a scam, hang up!' and then dead.
**Be very careful all, and run constant checks on your computer ... and do not cooperate unless they give you a number that you can return their call to. If provided with one, google it then make your decision from there.***
