Caller identified herself as being from Microsoft. Claimed "they" had received an error message from my computer indicating it's infected with malware, and that I needed to download their software to fix it. I handed the phone to my (IT tech) roommate, who listened to her story, politely thanked her, and hung up. He explained it's a scam, that Microsoft does not call people like this, and that the phone number is "spoofed".
At first they would not identify themselves at all. When I demanded, they claimed be from the "Technical Support area of Windows". They were trying to tell me my computer was infected and needed to be cleaned immediately. I got their # from Caller ID
they called and don't say anything at all then after you have said hello a couple of times u hear a computer say good bye. it's as if they are recording your voice and then hang up. the last couple of days I have been receiving several messed up numbers. when somebody does talk it's the same foreign male voice. they have been trying to scam me for my credit card number
Claimed to be Microsoft and that they wanted to help fix my Windows program. I knew it was a scam since they had called 2-3 times a day for 3 days and left weird messages and my phone shows a list of how many times they called and the phone number. So I called the number and it does not accept calls and says it is out of service. I also called Microsoft to report it and they said the NEVER call customers, customers call in only. Said it was a scam. 1-253-820-3089. I told them not to call again when I spoke with them this morning, and they just called again.
