Called with a thick Indian accent telling me my windows operating system was about to CRASH. Has called several times. Block the number
From India calling to tell me my windows 10 needs to be updated.
A guy called Tom with an obvious Indian accent called. Thinnest books in the world "Indians I've met called Tom".
A scam to try and get into your computer. Hang up.
I have received this call several times, over many months, as has my 85-year-old mother, at a different number, in CA. Unfortunately, she allowed him to take control of her computer for about 20 minutes, and it hasn't worked properly since.
A man with a heavy South Asian accent claiming to be with the "maintenance and technical department" of your Microsoft or "window-based computer" suggests that your computer has viruses from the internet and tries to get you to turn over control of your computer to him. After under his spell, during which he tells you that he is detecting many viruses that he can eliminate with his software (when actually he is installing his malware), he then tells you the price and asks for your credit card number.
He screwed up my mother's computer so badly that we had to have the hard drive erased and all her programs reinstalled. She hadn't backed up her data, so many years of cherished photos, emails and information were lost. This guy needs to be STOPPED!
I received a call today - a man with an Indian accent called and said he was calling on behalf of my Microsoft system, and they received an error message about my Windows program, and he had "proof" that they received the message based on the unique ID number from my computer. I asked how stupid to do think I am, I would guess the next thing he was going to ask is how to access my computer so they can "fix' the problem.
