Called and told backlog of calls : leave number and they would call back in 47 minutes. Did in approx. time advised , got agent name and ID #, put me on hold for about 15 minutes and then hung up. Could not call back the 304-707-9490 number I was called from. Waste of Time...but, he does have my call back number so just MAYBE agent will do the right thing and call back?

My return call was a scam because when I called it back after being hung up on, It said number non .

This is an auto call return from the IRS Identity Verification. This particular call was NOT a scam. When I called IRS Identity Verification, the hold time was 20-30 minutes, so it gives you a "we will return your call" option. This is the call return number that displayed.

I know this is not a scam because there was no pertinent information exchanged and she knew exactly the form numbers I needed to answer my question.
The original number called was on a proper IRS form which I verified with the IRS to ensure it was not a scam.

That's not to say there won't be a scam similar, but my personal experience today is that this is not a scam. YMMV.
