Fake scammer trying to scare people into giving them money for a payday loan that never happened.
Received a phone call that left an automated message stating my name, number, and SSN was tied to a financial investigation. Call them back. Said I was being came after for two felony counts of fraud. Intent to defraud a bank and intent to deceive. Said I took a payday loan and never paid it back. I told them I had never taken one and she said well you must have applied for one and then didn't take it. I told her I didn't think I had, but she had my name, last four of social, birth date, phone number, old address, and email so it scared me. She said I did it in 2013 from my old address, but I had moved out of that address in 2012. She said they were scheduling a court date and I could appear there, but they could detain me if that happened and that we could settle now for $300 in fees they charge to apply for a payday loan since I didn't take out one. She couldn't give me the name of the payday loan place, but said they work for Equity Lender who lends to over 300 payday loan companies. I told her my family has a lawyer they keep on retainer and that I needed to talk to him and then she said do I really want to pay all that when I can settle for $300. I told her it would cost me nothing so she said she could put it on a short hold until noon yesterday. I then called back asking for all of the documentation to show my lawyer and she said what exactly do you want and I said everything you have regarding my case and what you have against me. She said she could send me a validation letter via email. After a couple of hours I didn't get it, so I called back and she was rude and said I would have by the end of the day. I waited and then decided I need to get their actual name and address. A woman answered and this time call it litigation something instead of legal mediation. I asked what the real company name was and she rattled off some initials I couldn't understand. Then I asked for address and she got all nervous and asked if this was pertaining to a claim. I said yes and she took my name and said she had to transfer me. She then transferred me to the same woman I had been talking to. She wanted to know what I wanted and I said the company name and address, I needed that for my lawyer. She then put me on hold for ten minutes so I hung up and called back. She refused to give me information and asked me not to call back again. I've never gotten the validation letter.
