CTR 277: Many times it is an abandoned robo-call. Sometimes the message just states, "Press 1 for yes or 2 for no." The consumer does not press any buttons.

It was a prerecorded political survey that asked three very basic questions (what was most importatnt to improve the economy, was I republican or democratic, did I approve of Pres. Obama) and then transfered you to win a free cruise to speak to a live person. However, I had to immediately provide a credit card number for port fees. It is my belief that they used this policical survey as a way to become exempt from the telemarketing rules. I was also very leary of providing a credit card number to a company that I didn't know if it was legitimate. I asked for time to look up the compnay and call back and was told that the trip would no longer be free. I was afraid it was a scam.

Call claimed I had been "Carefully selected to participate in a national political survey. If you complete the survey, you will be entered to win a cruise holiday. Port taxes and a fee may apply. Press 1 to take the survey"

Claims to be a political survey and giving a trip away

Purported to be a political survey for which one would receive a "free" cruise to the Bahamas. Survey consisted of 3 questions and was clearly a pretext for the call; as a political professional, I am familiar with bona fide surveys and this was not one.

Caribben Cruise lines Banamas Celebration ship. This call masqueraded as a political survey, asked three generic questions about political attitudes, and claimed that a political supporter was paying for a prize of a cruise. The "survey" was three prerecorded questions that requred a key entry and took about a minute to answer. This then connected to a live person who claimed that 1 of 150 people won a cruise as a result of taking the survey. They represented the company as caribbean cruise lines and the ship Celebration. Costs for travel were reported as limited to drinks and port charges of $59 per person.
