I too received a call ... but it was a 319-493-3723 number that came on my caller ID. He said his name is Tim Steel. Claiming he is with one of my federal student loans. Then he gave the number of 800-927-7667. He said he was with Performant Recovery .. which is the agency my student loan is through, but that is NOT the phone number for them. I do live in a 319 area code....but the number for my loan officer or collections person is a female and is not a 319 area code. I am not calling it back, as I am dealing with the student loan people myself. I don't understand why this freak would have the "need" to "borrow" a 319 phone number. The prefix was 493 and I believe that is a Waterloo, Iowa phone number. Performant is located in California. Not Iowa. There are too many scammers out there, so if they NEED to get a hold of me, they can send me something in writing in the mail.
