Scam

I received a call from a man, Kevin Anderson who identified himself as an agent with the IRS. He said IRS had concluded after undertaking an investigation that he would like the name of my criminal lawyer. "Why would I have a criminal lawyer?" You are a criminal he told me and a certified primary suspect in an outstanding case filed by IRS,. He said I have willfully acted to cheat and default IRS. He knew my name, and address but had / offered no other identification for me or Chris. I had told him he had to be kidding but he continued to tell me that my bank accounts would be frozen, assets have liens against them, my vehicles, home etc... if I did not come up with $1985 within 10 minutes. I could make phone calls but could not disclose the matter as it is highly confidential. If I did not do so within the 10 minutes, I could expect the authorities to arrive within 30 minutes where I would be jailed for 90 days without bond. I went to the local police dept. because Kevin said they would be monitoring all my calls and internet activity. So, now I feel rather dumb... The caller Kevin Anderson who did not sound American knew my name and address and asked if I had a criminal lawyer, as I was committing fraud intentionally against IRS. I was now listed as a primary suspect in an outstanding case filed by IRS. Did I have a Criminal Lawyer? He gave me 10 minutes to come up with $1985 or I would be arrested and jailed for 90 days without bail. He informed me that my bank accounts were being monitored and a hold would be put on them if I did not get that $ to them within the 10 minutes. He advised me not to get interested in speaking with authorities as all calls made from my home # would be monitored and this was a confidential matter, as I was deliberately cheating and defaulting against IRS. Kevin proceed to read me my list of "crimes". I got in my car drove to the local police station and yes, this is a scam and unfortunately some people give them the money out of fear. It has now been 30 minutes, I gave him no information as he had some but no date of birth or social security #. Yikes I feel stupid.
