Received a call from "Micheal"...said I was going to be arrested for a bogus payday loan. Since I've had calls like this before, from various "agencies" I told him that I knew this was a scam, and if it wasn't a scam, by law he MUST provide me with verification of debt, any reputable collection agency will happily provide this information to you upon request. FYI..any time you apply for a payday loan online, your information is sold to these people and they try to scare you into paying them. It doesn't matter whether you received the loan or not, they will call you incessantly. Keep requesting verification of the debt, threaten them with the attorney general's office. These ARE NOT legitimate phone calls. When I told him I knew this was a scam, he started telling me he wanted to "f" me, and how much did I charge for a night, and called me mother "f'@@@er" over and over. No legitimate debt collector is allowed to do that. Consumers are protected by the FDCPA, google it, it will give you all the information you need to know about debt collectors and debt collection practices. DO NOT give them any information about yourself, even if they tell you that your ssn is xxx, and your bank is xxx - don't verify that information. Also, they most likely have your work phone number. They WILL call you at work, they'll call your co-workers, your boss, your family, friends - they will tell people that are close to you that if you don't call them, you will be arrested. You can't be arrested for a debt, you may be issued a court summons and can be garnished, but you can't be arrested. So please, PLEASE don't give these people any more reasons to make your life miserable.
Caller said I needed to cotact them right away,or have my attorney contact them, said if I did not some one would show up at my house.Had heavy accent.I kept hanging up on him, he called like six times within a 15 minute time frame these people have called before from adifferent number, sometimes its a different man sometimes its a lady
A man by the name of Eric called me from this number informing me that I owed US Cash Advance for a payday loan I had received. Since his dialect was so difficult to understand, I was rather rude with him. He imformed me that he was from the attorney general's office in New York. He told me I was going to arrested by tomorrow because I failed to pay. I attempted to quiz him about the loan which I know nothing about. I informed him that I would report him to the Fair Trade Commission. Eventually he hung up. I believe this is a bogus call.
What can I do to elliminate these types of calls?
