This is the scam to "help you lower credit card rates." If I am home when they call, I always tell them I would LOVE to lower my rates. Then I make up credit card numbers and give them to the caller. It takes about 6-7 before they realize I am pulling their leg. Just remember, Visa starts with 4, MasterCard with 5, Discover with 6 and all have 16 digits. Make up an expiration date and the 3 CVV numbers on the back. When they come back and tell you it didn't go thru, say "they must have cancelled it because I was so far behind" and give them another number. Keeps them on the phone and spares other people!!

I have received more than 550 "lower your credit card interest rate" calls on my unlisted - Do Not Call registered cell phone. They are now calling 4 to 5 times per day. These calls have been increasing ever since the FCC has taken action against the 9 robocall spammers.
Slapping them with a fine that they do not have to pay isn't going to deter them at all. You need to go after them in CRIMINAL court for the advance fee fraud and the identity theft.
