Social security fraud
So a scam! I called back and engaged with a man named “Ryan” he asked me to verify myself and I asked what he had on file. He initially said there was nothing on file but within 20 seconds told me my first and last as well as my city (area code would tell you that). When asking what information he needs, he said address and social. I asked why I would ever give my social to anyone especially the full thing. He said if I feel uncomfortable I can contact the local police or office. Eventually I said something along the lines of “the idea that anyone would want to prey on vulnerable people that don’t know any better is appealing. I don’t see how you would want to do that to your fellow humankind”. The response was (in a lowered voice): “ I have never made anyone cry with these calls”.
Um, What? After a bit more engaging I asked for the physical address (1029 Camino La Costa, Austin Texas) and he got really defensive about the number. He said I “wasted [his] time” and that “I clearly was uncomfortable”(never comfortable around scammers I guess.. surprise surprise)
