They have been texting me to buy my tires I had on Craigslist. Claims to be sending me a check but nothing seems to line up as to why they would go through this hassle??? I am supposed to pay their driver from the excess money given in the check???

Yes, it's a scam. Is Atlanta, Georgia even anywhere near you? Nobody in their right mind would buy used tires, unseen, and have them shipped across the country. They could buy brand new tires for the amount they are offering to pay you, including extra for your trouble, shipping, etc. They are willing to send you a fake certified check for a large amount because they trust you to do all this extra legwork for them, right? I bet they originally said they would come in person to look at the tires and pay cash, right? Then they suddenly gave you a reason they couldn't come that makes no sense because they should have known that would be the situation in the first place. I have had these idiots tell me their daughter suddenly had a baby or that they're in the military and work strange hours away from home, and everything else you can think of. They are trying to play on your emotions to get you to do a favor for them. But if you actually took their check to your bank and cashed it, then gave a bunch of money and your tires to someone else who is supposed to ship things to the scammer, you would get a call from your bank a few days later and be told what you already know: the check is fake. And now you owe your bank all that money! Enjoy playing with the scammer if you have time to spare and negative emotions to take out on someone who is a liar, a thief, and an asshole. I have heard some really funny stories, like how someone told the scammer, "Your check is here and I took it to my bank. But I have decided I am keeping all the money!!!" That scammer got really angry and acted as if the check was real and he was honest, saying stuff like: "You can't do that! It's stealing! I will call the cops!" LOL ... Of course, that person knew the check was fake, so he only CLAIMED he went to cash it. He knew better than to waste his time, and he knew no cops would be called by the thief, but he was able to make the thief spend money overnight mailing that fake check! So, handle this however you want to, but DON'T believe the scammer - or his check! Trust yourself; your instincts are correct.
