They called and left a message on my answering machine. Said they were Apria Healthcare and I owed them money for a bill that is overdue. It's been years since I rented one of their devices and it was returned a long time ago. When I tried to call them back (at 503-917-5714) it would ring, be picked up, and immediately dropped. I finally checked and this is most likely a scam.
Claimed to be from Apria calling about a "billing issue." Indian caller knew a bunch of information, but them started asking me to confirm some things which I wouldn't do. He then hung up. I called to a known Apria number and they stated that there wasn't a call on their records and that there were no billing issues. I would be very weary about these calls.
I am dealing with the same issue. I was told I had to pay the rental fee, but not for the actual machine if I return it. I returned the machine within 30 days of it being delivered. When I asked them to send me a breakdown of the $249.00 charge, they so far have not done so.
They are trying to collect for a CPAP device machine purchased via insurance under Medicare guidelines for which the "Amount the supplier may bill you" is $0.00. Several complaints, grievances, and investigations have been initiated, and Apria has been apprised. Agent with whom I spoke was next to impossible to understand = yet another complaint. Asking for the Indian representatives name, I was given 'Catherine Smith'. Talking directly with Apria I was advised calls are, in fact, answered in India, and was also apprised that they have no Catherine Smith. No kidding. I never knew a citizen of India with such an American Name.
