First a message was left on my answering machine with a woman telling me to call the IRS - they have a suit against me for tax evasion.
I called 509-288-4653. A man answered IRS, said his name was Peter Smith, and again told me there was a suit against me. When I asked what he was talking about, he told me he was going to get the affidavit...next thing I heard was a dial tone!

We got the automated Fake IRS call. Do they really think people will fall for this? The IRS doesn't call you!

Spoke to officer "David Jackson", badge #EP101, who spoke very poor English, and said they were prepared to execute a warrant to seize my property, bank accounts and assets, but I would be given a chance to settle for $3986.73. Would I like to arrange a meeting with a representative, who would be happy to come to my home? When I asked questions, I was transferred to a supervisor, officer Ray, badge #3713. When I mentioned the whole process sounded phony, and asked what branch officer Ray worked out of, he hung up on me.

Voicemail sounds official enough, but the 509 area code and the content sounded off. Thank goodness for the way the Internet enables one to check on details.

Considering calling back just to toy with them. That could be fun!

The voicemail is a digital voice.
"Hello. We have been trying to reach you. This call is officially a final notice from IRS, Internal Revenue Service. The reason of this call is to inform you that IRS is filing lawsuit against you. To get more information about this case file, please call immediately on our department number 509-207-4069. I repeat 509-207-4069. Thank you." The IRS doesn't call and leave messages. They send letters. They certainly wouldn't use a digitized voice threatening a lawsuit. One day they'll figure out how to use correct English and we'll really be concerned.
