This is actually legit: https://www.dshs.state.tx.us/chs/brfss/pages/survey_faq.shtm
However to ensure that the number has not been spoofed I would still recommend you tell them that you will call them back using their toll-free number: 855-276-3504.
I filed a complaint with the National Do Not Call Registry about these pests after numerous invasive calls. They were told not to call repeatedly.
This female caller said she was with DSHS conducting a survey and was wondering if surrounding was safe to participate in survey. I said no although nobody was around and she said " ok thank you we will call back at a different time" call was at 6:34pm. Who makes personal calls like this? Sounds pretty sketchy.
I am sick to death of getting calls from this number

We actually got a notice by snail mail that our household would receive this call as a part of a survey for Texas Department of Health. There was a number to call to get yourself removed from it. The letter looked legit, but I accidentally away, so I can't call them to be removed. Yesterday was the first time they've tried to reach us during "normal" business hours. I wasn't here. We don't answer our landline before 9 am or after 5 pm.
I have received this call several times also with a voice mail about a survey being left & asking me to return the call. I finally answered. He claimed, with a heavy Indian sounding accent, that he "Was with the TX Dept. Of State Health Services, (DSHS) & would I be willing to complete a survey. He asked if I would do a survey or could he call back at a more convenient time. I asked where he was calling from, & again he said "DSHS." I informed him "There is no such thing as the DSHS department as they merged with another state department approximately 2 years ago. I know this because I work for the State of Texas & am at my job right now while on this call." (I do truly work for the State of Texas & worked for DSHS when they merged with HHSC & I still do.) All he could say was "Oh". Do not answer any of their questions. I didn't even give him the opportunity to ask anything.
