I have received similar calls from this number: 1-516-218-8797.. This robocaller is Nationwide Consumer Services, 6738 Stirling Rd., Hollywood, Florida. Their other number is 1-800-977-3426.
They are a "debt consolidation" service and may or may not be legitimate, if annoying, with their repeated calls. There are, however, some such companies (at least three in Florida, so I've read) who have been convicted of fraud by successfully collecting debt money owing and simply pocketing it themselves instead of turning it over to the debtor
Given that I am a Canadian, it would appear that robocallers like this one regularly go on such fishing expeditions in, at least, North America. They generally are not hired by the company to whom the debt is owed, but comb the myriad of long unpaid debt sources, then try their luck with their various intimidation psychological tactics, which often scare the daylights out of people who are not aware of who they are and of their very real legal limitations. For example, they often, by their company name or phone script, try to lead the victim into thinking that they are some sort of government agency or part of a law firm, which causes no end of stress for the unknowledgeable.
In the event that this may be helpful to any of you who have been stressed out by this, here is how I have handled this problem:
First of all, I have a Call Display feature as part of my phone package and never answer a phone call if I don't know who it is or may not wish to speak to that party. If that party thinks it's important enough to get a hold of me, they can use my voice mail to leave a message so I could get back to them - or not, depending on who they are. I always delete any robocaller's message - after I've recorded any pertinent information about them contained in the message.
Secondly, I've adjusted my phone ringer to a minimally sufficient volume that I will hear it when I'm awake, but not loud enough to wake me if I am sleeping. That way, such robocallers can try to get me (but won't) any hour of the day or night and they won't disturb me.
Thirdly, if my Call Display shows a number onscreen, I enter it on a search engine, such as Google or Bing, to see if there are reverse phone lookup websites, especially, that have information on the caller. And there usually are at least one, usually several, that will tell me who it is, what they're up to, as well as comments from people who have been victimized by their being called repeatedly by that party.
Fourthly, I'm fine with such people calling me and, each time, hugely enjoy the fact that they're wasting all this time calling and never getting me AND: mindful of the fact that, in the meantime, the company in question is paying their boiler room callers (or are they?), but don't make a penny because they only get paid a commission on any payment made by the target.
If you keep all this in mind - and act accordingly, you will not have to suffer any further hassle and stress.
Filing a complaint with the OAG.
