The phone number he gave me was 510-725-4005. He wanted $2500 to "drop charges".
He claimed to be an attorney with the DEA and even had me go to a website that came up Justice Department. He said he was Thomas Harrigton, an attorney with the DEA. He said I had gotten drugs from the Domenican Republic five years ago. After he found out I was an elderly lady who lives on Social Security, he lowered my "plea bargain" to $180. I was to take this money in cash to a check cashing store in my city. The police told me that they also have a Western Union place there and he would want me to send the money through them. I am in poor health and still feel sick about this.

This guy called here and left a message on my voicemail. I reported it to the "something & Extortion hotline" at DEA. The telephone number is 877-792-2873. Yes it is illegal to impersonate a DEA officer! I received a call from this incredible jackass last year with the same crap and I hung up on him then. I don't get why they haven't caught this guy or these guys when it's been going on for several years. Laugh at the jerk, tell him you are a DEA Officer, tell him you are with the FBI....whatever. Then report it - though I can't see that it is doing any good to do so. Worth a try anyway. I'm considering calling my local police force so they can put out a warning in the newspaper. There are many elderly people here who might fall for this crap.
it was rick perry calling you

SAME DEAL WITH ME...ARE YOU DRESSED, ETC. WHAT A FREAK... I HAVE NEVER ORDERED ANYTHING REMOTELY LIKE WHAT HE DESCRIBED...
Oh and by the way, Isnt it Illegal to impersonate a federal agent??? With all these complaints you would think the authorities would go in and throw these people in prison where they belong!!!!

That would be correct unless you are the federal agency that is in charge of doing just that. Could it be the DEA is shaking down people it thinks are minor offenders for some pocket cash. This could be a huge scam they are running. Instead of prosecuting people they know would cost them more money than its worth they call them up and try and shake them down a bit. Or its people spoofing the number trying to shake people down posing as the DEA. That would be my bet.
I got the same call. This guy has called me before claiming to be the F.B.I. I told him that I was the F.B.I and he hung up.Ha Ha. I called the number back a couple times and talked to a female once and another guy another time and they both said this was a travel agency out of Miami, Florida. I did a phone number search and the call is out of Long Beach California. I think it really is a travel agency but they have a employee who is running scams while he is at work. They all speak spanish and youll get a recording in Spanish if you call the number.
