An unwanted call from this Ithaca NY number arrived today. When the answering machine picked up, a robotic voice said my Windows computer had been compromised, and to press 1 to connect to the security team.

This is one of many tech support scams flooding the phone lines. Whether it's computer repairs, timeshares, vacation giveaways, credit cards, air duct cleaning, home repairs, health products, solar energy, fake charities, the IRS, or Nigerian princes, A SCAM IS A SCAM IS A SCAM!

This low-tech robotic call warns that if you are using Windows "on your computer" (duh, where else, in my home?) that I must call this number or all of my information will be erased. (Who is That stupid?)

Scam -- talking about Microsoft and will lose all data. Do not call back. Do not answer.

Received a call Nov 2nd 2017 around 5:20pm and the voicemail said my info had been compromised on microsoft so I call them back and man gave me the IP address. I hung up and he called back but I denied the call. I would much rather provide my info to a credible number vs a random number I do not have on file and cannot trust. Be careful with the info you provide through phone. Lots of scams these days.

Recording saying if I was using Microsoft Windows, that someone was trying to hijack my computer. Said to press 1 if I was using Windows and it would connect to someone.

Voice message from Smith Technologies indicating that someone was trying to hi-jack my computer , steal my passwords and disable my PC. A number was left as being 607-319-8426 to call for assistance. RIGHT! My computer was not on. Can't trust or believe anything these days.

These people are absolutely unscrupulous! The man (sorry, but obviously from the subcontinent) identified himself as James Fit and gave me a long ID number as well as saying he was part of Microsoft. When I read him back the info, he confirmed it, so I said he wouldn't mind if I called Microsoft "Windows Division" (his employer) to confirm. He quickly reminded me what a "big company" MS is and implied it might be hard to find someone to verify his statements. I told him he was a fraud and hung up. A minute later, he called me back (!!!) and asked if we'd been disconnected. Ha! Told him to stop calling.
