About 9:40 am on Jan 09th, I answered a call from 613-417-3564 on my employer's main office line. It was an automated call from 'Canada Revenue Agency' declaring a criminal lawsuit in progress against 'you' and making threats of extra problems if I didn't call them back right away.
I work for a law firm. I was amused!
I regret that I was unable to call back soon enough tell them just how badly they'd got a wrong number.
I tried calling at 1:30 pm, hit error message 'Due to network difficulties, you long distance call cannot be completed at this time. Please hang up and try again later.' At my next chance to call, 1 pm Jan 10th, the number rang and rang and rang unanswered.

Revenue Canada scam. I called them back a few times to tell them to get a real job. Also ordered a pizza. They hung up on me!

Initial call from them was a recorded message as follows:
Canada Revenue Agency this message is intended to contact you regarding an enforcement action executed by the Canadian Treasury intending your serious attention ignoring this will be an intentional 2nd attempt to avoid initial appearance before a magistrate judge or a grand jury for a federal criminal offense this is the final attempt to reach you to resolve this issue immediately and to speak to a federal agent call back number 613-417-3564 I repeat 613-417-3564 thank you.

I don't know why the police can't track the owner of this number and shut it down. The criminals are likely overseas.

Why is it taking so long to put an end to this scam?

Say they are filing a law suit against you. That you will be arrested if you don't call them back.

Pretending to be from CRA - The automated robotic sounding message threatens to "get you arrested" if you don't call them back.
