They are pishing for your information so they can steal your identity or credit card info. The caller ID is fake. The phone companies refuse to block them. They are usually located out of the country so they are out of reach of our law authorities.
I recommend each time you get the call to press the number to speak to a rep. and blow a whistle in their ear. It probably won't stop the calls but can give a little satisfaction.
When the call comes in and you get a live rep on the phone, let's blow a whistle or scream really loud. I think if everyone does this, it will give someone on the other end a headache that day.
The website http://www.ct.gov/ag/cwp/view.asp?A=2795&Q=411422 does give plenty of info and the investigation pending for these calls. There are several offenders which explain the great difficulties in tracking the caller. One of the offender, Great Atlantic Warranty, their numbers are not working now.
I did file a complaint with the FBI. Here is their website:

Here is my email to them in case you would like to copy and paste to help you with yours:
"I have been receiving calls from 615-563-7877 about expiring vehicle warranty. After pressing #1, a live rep would answer but would immediately hang up when I ask her question like how she got my number and on another call, when I ask to be remove from the list. The number is not active in any searches. I'm worried that by selecting #1 to speak to a live rep after several calls to my home, the person/company might be retrieving/saving the information somehow almost like "cookies" on the computer so they can pass it along to others for future harassment. There are many blogs about this on the internet so it appears to be a huge problem.
Many thanks for you time. I hope you can help."
I think by grouping together and tackling these nuisance companies, we can reduce the calls. Also, by not purchasing ANY extended warranties directly from these calls with help as well.
Regards.
they keep calling me and leaving msgs about a car warranty, and then you get an automated recording when you call back saying it it not a working number. How do they get private numbers?
I did a bit of research and think I may have found where these calls are coming from. It is a compnay caled Great Atlantic Warranty, you can check them out at http://www.gawarranty.com.
ditto to: "The individual calling from this number are trying to scam people into buying bogus car warrantys. They are very rude and wont stop calling even though I asked to be removed from their calling list. "
They have called me many times on my work phone regardless of my request to remove my number.
