I've gotten numerous phone calls from this number, usually when I'm busy, and they never left a message. I never answer anyway. Today I noticed something different. The call initially came across as a number from my phone book (319 area code), after I watched it ring several times, it changed to this 618 number. So somehow (I suppose only on smart phones, but not for sure), the call first taps or hacks into your phone book to find a number you'll recognize, as a mask, then after several rings the mask falls off to reveal the true number.
This time I answered it, wondering if it was the person I was waiting to hear from, since they were in my phone book. Then I saw it switch to this 618 number. They answered with a very fast voice, and when I asked "who is this?", she replied a little slower, but I ended up just hanging up. I have an app that records every phone call, so I listened to it a number of times, and this is what she was saying to me: "My name's Carrie, on a recorded line with Kohl's Department Stores, and I was looking for Scott... (me).".
I can only assume this is a debt collector. But since I noticed that it was changing from a number in my phone book to this number, it can only be a hacked scam.
Say they are from the IRS with a very heavy accent. Start asking for my credit card number and social. I told them the IRS will never call you plus they are closed on Sundays. Asked for their name and was cursed out.
