Left a number of messages on our answering machine. It was scary but thought it was a fake call so I googled it and found all this helpful information. Someone needs to stop this since it could really scare the elderly.
Same experience as above. Multiple calls, same baloney.
Said it was an attempt from the Federal Gov. and would result in criminal offense unless I returned call.
Here is a transcript of the message I rec'd on my vm. "Hi. this message is intended to contact you." [note, he does not call you by your name - this is a generic message.] "My name is Steve Martin and I'm calling regarding enforcement actions {something - I couldn't understand him} by the U.S. Treasury and tending [?] your serious attention. Ignoring this will be an intentional second attempt to avoid initial appearance before a magistrate judge or a grand jury for a federal criminal offense" {At this point, "Steve" provided his phone number twice.] "I advise you to cooperate with us and help us to help you. Thanks." As was noted before, the U.S. Treasury does not contact people by phone. If you owe back taxes, etc, they will contact you by mail. Do NOT return "Steve"'s call.
Called me three times this morning. I called the number back and told them I am an attorney...they hung up on me
