Scam - Man posing as IRS employee trying to collect personal information
Called me saying there was a warrant for my arrest over a "Student tax"
Man with a middle eastern accent called me on May 4 around 9 AM Pacific Time saying he was with the IRS and I had not filed my "Form 61" and that a warrant was out for my arrest, and that I had to make a decision immediately if I wanted to "resolve the fines now" or not (and have legal action taken against me -- i.e., getting arrested and going to court and likely paying more in legal fees than just paying the fine). He said I owed $947 and would not let me hang up the phone without giving him an answer for what I wanted to do. He proposed that to resolve the fine I would have to keep him with me on the phone as I went to an ATM or to my bank to withdraw the money in CASH ONLY and then take it to a Safeway or Albertson's to send it in an electronic money order following the instructions he was going to give me over the phone. While on the phone he also managed to have "911" call my phone twice (as an attempt to scare me and think the cops were coming to "arrest me"). I finally hung up on him, but he immediately called me back within a few seconds from a second phone number from Cambridge, MA and he scolded me for hanging up on him. I told him I knew this was a scam and that I would turn him in, and he immediately hung up.
This is an illegal scam. A woman with an Indian accent transferred me to "her supervisor", a man with an Indian accent. I said I have paid my taxes and this is an illegal call. He got worked up and hung up on me.
