I too got the text stating the 'change on your credit report'. I don't believe this is a scam, but DONT click the link in the text message just in case. I logged into the trustedID website from another device (using the incognito option of my browser) There was an alert on my account. It was a classified as an 'Updated tradeline' with a status of 'new' and a current date. I dont know what that alert means, but its for one of my existing accounts. Like someone else mentioned, this may be a sleazy sales tactic to get you to buy their service, but I dont think its actual fraud.
For starters, the phone is registered in Pescadero, California. "Pescadero" means "fisherman" - so it's a short jump to "phishing". Beyond that, TrustedID (an Equifax company) has an option to turn off messaging - find it when you log on to them - and turn it off like I did. Or not, as is your choice. It's the only choice we have - I don't remember wanting Equifax to have my personal information - do you? Equifax failed to protect our information and they formed TrustedID for two reasons: If you take them up on their "free-for one year" offer to monitor your credit you (it is argued) eliminate your option to sue them, or join in a class action suit against them. And secondly, since the breach happened "around" September 2017, you may expect advertisements and compelling literature to continue to have TrustedID monitor your credit - for a "nominal fee" - and don't you owe it to your family to do so? So the scum at Equifax wants their F#*&-UP to turn into a money-making opportunity! And it you don't believe me, go to Experian and see their advertisement for the same service! 'Course the Equifax CEO, Richard Smith, quickly retired, collecting $90 Million out the door. I HOPE I don't see him crossing the street of my feet might slip off my brake...(sigh)
I received a text on my cell phone and I also received an email for the same thing. I assume that this is legitimate.
This is NOT spam. They were hired by Equifax to alert people about changes to their credit report.
I too received this text message. I suspended my disbelief and did respond given so few people have my cell phone number and I had just signed up for the Equifax service. Response from web site was that I had entered a bad userid or password. When I attempted to reset the password....I did not receive a response. Phishing scam? Not sure yet...I will contact Equifax directly and see what they say.
