Fraudulent Walmart Text Message-Voicemail Scam
July 15, 2010 - Fraudsters purporting to be from Walmart have been making phone calls and sending text messages offering free gift cards and vouchers to consumers. These offers are often made under the guise of winning a contest; filling out a Walmart survey; or as a “thank you” for visiting the Walmart website.
As part of the scam, the fraudsters ask the consumer for bank account or credit card information to deposit funds or pay for shipping and handling. These phone calls are not from Walmart. Walmart will never initiate a phone call where we ask for sensitive personal data like credit card information or social security numbers.
