guy with the middle eastern accent called to tell me the US Treasury Dept. was taking legal action against me. I told him to provide the charges in writing and I would respond. He told me there wasn't time for that and if I didn't take care of this now, I would be going to jail. I hung up. The guy called back to tell me I better get a good criminal attorney, because I was going to jail for a long time. I thanked him for the advice and hung up again.
Same thing just happened to me! First caller identified himself as "Mike Hall" with a heavy Middle Eastern accent. Transferred me to Barbara who tried to get me to pay over $4k because of my 2014 tax return. Total scam!
Received a voicemail worded like the other comments. It was a bit scary, but I recognized it was the scam callers. I called the number back and the lady (Caribbean accent) took a while then came back saying that there was a tax lien to be filed against me. I laughingly replied that I knew better because I was all paid up on taxes. The woman told me to perform an anatomically impossible act and DIE "B." Then she slammed down the phone. Guess she didn't like that I wasn't falling for her scheme. How do we stop these people?
Same guy just called me.. there's got to be a way to track him down for fraud. Isn't it a federal offense bc he's pretending to be U.S legal affairs?
My wife just got a call from this number but the caller identified as Sean Peterson of the Dept of Legal Affairs, saying that she needed to contact her immediately as a legal action had been started against her.
The caller sounded like a woman with a very heavy Indian or perhaps middle eastern accent. Some how the name Sean Peterson didn't seem to fit. LOL!
I have received several of these before, usually saying they are an IRS officer. (IRS doesn't have officers, they have agents.)
I spoke with one fellow at length and led him on as he explained that I could settle my debt with an immediate payment of 3000 dollars.
I let him give his whole spiel and acted as though I was going to comply, then I asked him why he wasn't identified as an agent, and why he wassn't calling from a 1 800 number as all IRS phone numbers begin with that prefix. The I told him to eff off.
