Debts expire and drop off your credit report after 7 years. If they get you to answer, they start the clock on the debt all over and this is even if you hang up. Don't answer!

There are 2 time limits at issue here. The 1st is the state statute of limitations (which governs how long the creditor has to sue you) which varies by state. "alp" is right about the clock running again. If you agree to make payments, or even (in some circumstances) if you tell them that the claim is time-barred, a collection agency will argue that you've affirmed the debt, and the statute of limitations will start anew. The 2nd time limit is the 7-year period for the debt to "disappear" from your credit report. Best to check your own report as there are many instances where this wasn't followed.

They called me from a Denver area phone. Definitely bill collectors. When I asked who's calling they refused to answer until I confirmed who I was. I hung up and blocked the number after looking it up here!

They keep calling and using different area codes making it hard to block. Every time I answer they are looking for the same person who is not me or anyone I know and yet they still keep calling.
