Got a recorded message today from Steve Martin saying not to ignore this second message and something about facing a magistrate court or grand jury and something about federal criminal action. I called the number to tell them I was on the do not call list, and heard a recording from Magic Jack saying this number has not yet been assigned to a customer. Then it rang a few times and was followed by another message saying the number has been disconnected or no longer in service.
Me too. Complete lack of actual facts in the message made me think it was bogus, this site confirms. What a bunch of punks.
My sister got 2 messages on her answering machine just like these. Steve Martin with an Indian accent from the U.S. Treasury. "Ignoring this will be an intentional 2nd attempt to avoid initial appearance before a magistrate judge or a grand jury for a federal criminal offense." Completely obnoxious. Total phishing scam.
I recommend saying, "You're Steve Martin! Tell me a joke." Also, since they give you a real call back number, report it to FCC.gov and tell them they claim to be working for a federal agency.
got same scam call today. when I called the number back I told him I was going to kick his butt back to wherever he came from. said police were coming to get me and then he hung up.
I got the same message from "Steve Martin" and I called back ready to have some fun they asked who I was and I said who were you trying to reach...She had my name and I asked what my SSN was and she hung up. What a scam!
