Got a recorded message today from Steve Martin saying not to ignore this second message and something about facing a magistrate court or grand jury and something about federal criminal action. I called the number to tell them I was on the do not call list, and heard a recording from Magic Jack saying this number has not yet been assigned to a customer. Then it rang a few times and was followed by another message saying the number has been disconnected or no longer in service.

Me too. Complete lack of actual facts in the message made me think it was bogus, this site confirms. What a bunch of punks.

My sister got 2 messages on her answering machine just like these. Steve Martin with an Indian accent from the U.S. Treasury. "Ignoring this will be an intentional 2nd attempt to avoid initial appearance before a magistrate judge or a grand jury for a federal criminal offense." Completely obnoxious. Total phishing scam.

I recommend saying, "You're Steve Martin! Tell me a joke." Also, since they give you a real call back number, report it to FCC.gov and tell them they claim to be working for a federal agency.

Just received same call. Voice recording from "Steve Martin" saying something about a federal case and the U.S Treasury. Total scam! Five minutes later received another call from another number, same guy, but not a voice recording. I immediately hung up.

I just received such a call. The IRS doesn't call you if you owe them money, they mail you.

Got a call from this Pakistani man (pretending to be in San Diego), told me he was from the US Treasury Dept, calling about my 2012 federal taxes. I asked if he was from the IRS, he confirmed that he was (?). OK then, I asked him to tell me my SSN, since he would have that info. He tried to evade, then hung up.

Absolutely a scam. Steve Martin called yesterday from 760-298-3949 and today from this number. Says we had unpaid 2010 taxes & penalties. First of all, why is the "US Treasury" calling and not the IRS? Second, the IRS does not contact anyone by phone.... I do know this for a fact :)

I too got 2of these calls today really frightening. I thought I had better find out who called rather than phone straight back. The accent was a big warning!

I received same call today, with same information, left a message on my voice mail. Caller said his name was Steve Martin, and he spoke with a thick accent. I think it is a scam.

This is the second call to my number. He says they have contacted me once and I must respond to federal criminal action in a jury or magistrate court immediately or face persecution. If I don't respond they will proceed with incrimination. It is an automated call, and it's the second call with the same comment re the second time they called. ???
