Sounds like a Proper Service or Bill Collector calling to notify of a Civil Action with attached No-Contact Order (which would be DV or a harassment case), but this is all false. There are no Massachusetts county district courts in that area code. Check the Court's Websites and Call Clerks whenever you believe a case has been filed, it's public record and you can get the info for Free. This is an Eastern Mass number, and, apparently nobody lives there anyway (According to the folks in Boston).
Legal services. Claimed I had a legal action against me and even stated that there was a case number against me along with a subpoena.
Calls from the National Legal Corporation at 774-221-8770. About a family member being sued and offering services.
Got a message dated Jan 21st 2013 (I really never listen to my voicemail) stating my name, and that I had been named as a respondant in a court action which required me to appear in court. The order to show includes a restraining order, the message says. Claim and Affidavit number was repeated twice so I could be sure to write it down. Was told to forward this information to my attorney and that I or my attorney had 24-48 hours to oppose this. Stated on the message that the call was from "The Civil Investigations Unit". That's real hilarious. Good thing I used to work in telemarketing, I can smell a scam within 2 minutes. But I won't lie, they had me for about 1 minute. Then I realized a.) I'd get this in the mail b.) if your presence is required in court, you'll likely be served in person, especially if a restraining order is involved and c.) I don't know anyone in nor have I ever been to the 774 area code, Massachusetts. And if I were to get a call from a court anywhere, they'd say what state, not just a generic "civil investigations unit" LOL. ***FILE A COMPLAINT WITH THE FCC!!!*** I'm guessing they're not paying their telemarketing license fee if they're pulling this kind of crap, I'm 99% sure that this is illegal but even if it's not, what they're pulling is so shady, that tells me they're not paying the thousands of dollars it costs to call all of the 50 states in the USA. They have to pay a bond to the FCC and when the FCC finds out they're getting cheated out of their money, they WILL go after these clowns. DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY INFO. Don't call back from your own phone number. Just telling you what I know about dealing with scum like this.
They have called me today and left the same message. I live in a county where you can look up all civil suits filed, past and present, my first and last name. I did that before calling and found nothing had been filed against me. Then I did an internet search and found it was a scam. I called the number anyway to see what they had to say out of curiosity. i got an automated message that prompted me to press 1 for a seized or frozen bank account, 2 if I had gotten a message that I was being sued, and 3 if I wanted to settle to avoid further action. I tried all three options and it just rang and rang all three times. Be aware of this scam, they seem to have multiple scams running!!!
