Collection agency for Capitol 1 in Edmonton Canada
This is NCO Financial. They use threats and bullying tactics to try and coerce payments. they do not adhere to the collection agency call regulations regarding hours and have called on Sundays and weekday evenings after 9:00 p.m.
I have received a call from "Cody" this morning, if that is his real name and he was asking for someone at my house whom does not live here. I took the call and asked the nature, but was rudely interrupted and told it was a long distance call from Calgary.
He did not want to identify himself and mentioned he would call later.
How can I stop this?
Shouldn't part of the job be to verify the information you have before calling?
This phone number belongs to Pamela Hayes of NCO Financial in Edmonton. NCO Financial is a collection agency. They are not exactly the most reputable firm on the planet. A Google search of NCO Financial will bring up more of their unethical and/or illegal garbage than I can possibly post here.
Pamela and NCO Financial also use the toll-free number 1 877 237 2215. Note that any time you dial a toll-free number, the company you called sees your phone number. Even if you block your Caller ID.
If you mus contact NCO Financial by telephone, the best way is to call the main number (780 441 4000) collect from a pay phone. That way your real number does not appear on their phone bill and NCO Financial has the added hassle of paying for collect call.
Hi,
This month, I have received three telephone calls from 780-441-4000: Oct 5 at 2:10 pm, Oct 12 at 2:30 pm and Oct 16 at 7:00 am.
I managed to discover the identity of this organization only by searching the phone number with Google. It's name is 'NCO Financial Services' and it purports to be a collection agency.
I understand that its US branches have been under federal investigation for illicit business practices in some form.
The caller provides little or no information about himself or his organization unless it is demanded. Even then it is minimal.
At the same time, he insists that I provide personal information in regard to a 'legal matter' whose nature cannot be disclosed without it.
When I refuse, the caller becomes quite aggressive and starts to threaten legal action etc. At this point, I have hung up the phone.
In the most the most recent call, at 7 am, I asked if this was an emergency and suggested that they write me a letter.
The man replied that this was, indeed, an emergency and they already had sent a letter... I had obviously changed my address.
The caller implied that I was attempting to avoid payment of debt. At this point I hung up.
These people obviously do not know who I am and there is no reason for a collection agency to contact me.
Various websites (found using the search term '780-441-4000') contain reports of unrelenting calls and demands even when it is clear they have the wrong person.
The calls sound like 'fishing' and they are fast becoming a harassment. I'm also concerned about possible identity theft.
Can something be done to restrain these people?
Thanks,
Geoff
