Requesting a call back. Total scam based on information just received by VA. Don't fall for this one.
Caller's offer not credible based on VA instructions given during a visit this week.
Caller claimed to be from the VA, saying they needed a copy of my DD214 for benefits enrollment. The call came from Kansas. He asked me to FAX my DD214 to a number in Atlanta, GA. This made me suspicious. I took the FAX number.
Once off the phone I immediately called the VA Benefits number at 866-827-1000. I got a benefits specialist on the line and explained what happened. He said the VA had not initiated the call and that the FAX number was not a VA office FAX number.
Definitely a scammer. If they get your DD214 they can screw up your benefits as well as your credit. Kiss goodbye a VA mortgage, schooling, student loans and a wealth of other stuff!
When you call the number back, says it's out of service,SCAM!
This is one of VA number they use to contact veteran on to inform them of their benefits. they will in return leave the VA national number which is 1-877-222-8387... This is their national toll free number. and they will also leave the 1-866-400-1237 for their Welcome to ChooseVA call that are conducted on Saturday's. But you will not be able to call them on the weekend because they only have out going calls that day. They are available 7am 7pm CT Mon-Friday...
