They left us a voice mail saying a transaction request from a store we use was declined. My renewal date was coming up, so I checked on that, and it wasn't due for about a week yet, so I suspected a scam. Went to Discover's site and messaged with a representative there, who said nothing like that had occurred on my account. So yes, this is a scam.
I got a voice mail claiming that I needed to call the fraud department at Discover Card. I called Discover directly, and they confirmed that the number doesn't belong to them and it is a scam.

I verified through the Discover website that this is in fact the Discover Fraud Department (automated purchase verification) number. Further, when I didn't see any alerts online when I logged in, she said I needed to call them. I did, and had to verify a recent purchase. After I verified it, they released the block on my account. I too thought it might be a phishing attempt, but this is the real number for Discover Card.

I made a automotive parts purchase online and my card was declined and right after this number called to notify me of possible fraud. After I called the number Discover Fraud Dept. automated purchase verification lifted the hold on my card and I was able to complete my purchase. This is a legit Discover Card phone number.
It's for real.
Not a scam. I got the message and instead of calling back, I called the Discover Customer Service number on my card. It was legitimate. I had tried to make an online purchase and they declined it based on the website I was using. They verified the website and the amount of the purchase I was trying to make.
