There are indeed 2 types of people that are saying this number is legit and on the up and up... 1.) The shills that are running this scam 2.) A stone cold idiot...If you find yourself in the number 2 bracket...go ahead and give them your account info because you deserve to get wiped out

I called the number from a text message I received about a fraudulent charge and after going through the process of cancelling my debit card and filing a claim about the transaction, I started wondering if it was a scam. I found this page and it really got me worried, so I called the number on the back of my card and everything I had done with the first phone call to the number in question was legitimate. This number is not a scam, but I would still recommend calling the number on the back of your card just to be safe...

There are people posting comments here who were actually a manipulator of this phishing scam. You can clearly tell who they are. Don't be stupid and you won't be a victim.

This is definitely Chase fraud dept. I called the number and they listed my last 5 transactions correctly, then proceeded to tell me the charges that had been declined as they thought they were fraudulent. Just to make sure, I called back the banker through the Chase number on the back of my card, asked to speak with _____ in the fraud department and was connected to him. This is Chase. I am very suspicious of those saying it isn't.

SCAM. Don't give any info, don't bother calling back. Don't be a dumbass and give your info, you should know Chase wouldn't call you asking for that info. This number called me at 9:00pm EST, pretty obvious it's not legit.

I just got a call from this number 1-800-355-5265 and the ID caller showed Chase Fraud. I do have a chase card but hardly use it that it only has $ 5 in it. Anyway, called the number, followed the prompt, and it was for a different person.

I think this is a scam as others have pointed out and the person(s) calling are using "spoof" number where you call a 800 number from any phone (cell, land line, etc.), and you can put whatever number you want (business or person) and that number will show up at the other end of the person you are calling. These scam artist are hoping that you will pick up the phone when they call, talk to you live, and tell you about fraudulent use, get account info from you, and bam, you've been scammed! I think this is the reason why they don't leave message because they will never be able to answer back because the number is legit, but not the caller and the intent.

Clearly some people posting here are part of this scam. They just text me claiming they are citi bank. A bank would never contact you by text message.

I'm really surprised that so many people are claiming this is a fraudulent number. This is ABSOLUTELY a legitimate Chase number--it's their fraud department. If you get a call from this number, don't call it back if you're uncomfortable--call the number on the back of your card, press 0 to get a human, and explain you were contacted about a fraudulent charge. They will transfer you to the fraud department. In my case they were verifying a purchase i made from an overseas company.

The first person you reach when you call the number on the back of your card will not know the details since they AREN'T THE FRAUD DEPARTMENT. Seriously, if you ignore calls from this number, your account may have been compromised and you're better off knowing sooner than later.

They may also text you from 956-86

I just got off the phone with Chase and they confirmed the number is not them.

1. Chase will never call you to tell you there is a Fraud Issue. They will email or text you and ask you to CALL them back.

BANKS NEVER CALL YOU ASKING FOR YOUR INFORMATION OVER THE PHONE. HANG UP AND CALL YOUR BANK.

I, like others here, had a voicemail to contact 'Chase debit card fraud prevention department'. They said to call 800-355-5265. It has happened to me before, and at that time my account actually was compromised and they reissued a new card. (Thank God for this service!) This time around, my card had indeed been frozen due to suspicious purchase attempts. Once I verified a few transactions, and that it was me that made them, (they actually gave me a list of each one) the card was unfrozen. This IS CHASE. I don't know why there are so many people reporting them as scammers. It isn't difficult to verify who they are. If you are still concerned, always call the number on the back of your card for help.

Got a text from a 6 digit number saying it was Chase about a possible fraudulent charge, I called Chase and they said there was no suspicious activity on my account. Later, I got three phone calls from the 800 number, they left no voice mails. I called the number on the back of my card to verify after reading many things online about this being a scam, and Chase said it was, in fact, their number calling, but there was nothing on my account about them trying to get a hold of me. We concluded someone must have set up a Chase account with an incorrect number, and they were really trying to contact them. This is not a fraudulent phone number, but don't give out personal info just in case, and always just call the number on the back of your card.

same as all the others--

I called chase and they said it isn't their base fraud dept #. I asked if my account (i only have one) had been flagged for fraud, they said NO.

She said to continue to monitor my purchases, though there were none on my account that seemed illegitimate.

In order, I received a text to my cell asking me to reply if I had authorized a $26 purchase several nights before at a restaurant, a cell call, a WORK number call, a cell call, a work number call.

the responses on this site touting it as a legitimate call are false.

News article which includes this number:

Received a voicemail satating it was Chase Debit Card Farud protection services. They left 800-355-5265 as a call back along with a six-digit reference code. I do not have a Chase Debit card, just credit cards. I did not call the number back, but instead called the number on the back of my credit card. They did not show any alerts on my account, but suggested I speak with the debit card folks (which are housed seperately from the credit card folk). When I spoke to the fraud dept on the debit card side, they did confirm that this is a Chase phone number, but didn't have any record for me. I am thinking that my new cell phone number was associated with someone else's account. Bottom line, this may be legit, but I would call the bank directly from the back of your credit or debit card instead of calling the number left on your message

Initially received a random text from 'Chase Bank' stating that my account may have been fraudulently accessed. Funny thing since I don't have an account with Chase Bank or any debit/credit cards. I deleted the text message. Shortly after receiving the text, I received a call from the 800-355-5265 on my cell phone and didn't answer. No message was left.

I just received a call from 800-355-5265 and was provided with a reference number. They claimed it was the Chase Debit Card Fraud Prevention calling to verify account activity. I called the number on back of my debit card instead, and the Chase rep told me that there were no records on my account of fraudulent activity, and that it is a phishing scam. He told me to email abuse@chase.com and report it. Beware, they are trying to get your account information.

Got a call from these folks and wondered if it was a scam. I called and pressed keys to get to a live person. I asked why they did not answer phone as Chase, they told me if I was uncomfortable to call the number on the back of my card, I did feel weird about the whole thing and called the number on the back of my card and was informed by Chase that this is indeed a phishing scam.
Chase does not have that number registered to them.

Beware, this is s scam!
