They keep calling me and ask me to call back. But when I call back, they ask me to put in my SSN or acct#. which make me feel that is not right

They left a message saying that friends of mine had given my name as a reference. When I called, the prompt asked me to enter my account number or SSN. I called the number because they had given the names of a married couple who are friends of mine.
