called 5 times in a row without leaving a message!

My elderly mom called me to report another (this) suspicious call. She was asked to check her smoke alarm. When she indicated she wasn't going to & asked the caller "who are you?" & said " I don't know you."
She was asked if she was home alone and if anyone else lived with her.
She indicated her husband would be home later and then was asked what time he would be home.
She responded she wasn't sure of the exact time.

I believe she is being targeted to find out if she's vulnerable & then possibly an easy target.
I wish there were some way you could identify this caller. Obviously since no business name was mentioned , I don't believe this is a legitimate business. I am very worried about this.
